Survey Indicates that Mac, PC Users May Be Very Different

Are Mac and PC users really that different? According to the “I am a Mac” commercials, it would appear so.

While Mac computers are personified by a young, laidback and casual man – to represent how Macs are constantly growing and offering “cool” features – the PC computers are represented by an older man in a suit who comes across as nothing less than uptight and by the book. The commercials run as follows: both men introduce themselves as “Hello I am a Mac,” followed by “Hello I am a PC” and within seconds the Mac man appears to make the PC man feel insufficient as the Mac individual talks about all the advantages that Macs offer.

But are Mac and PC users really that different? According to a recent project completed by Hunchblog, they just might be.

Almost 390,000 Hunch users participated in the project, and of them 52 percent were PC users, 25 percent were Mac users and 23 percent used neither.

Survey results indicate that PC people are 22 percent more likely than Mac people to be aged 35 to 49 will Mac people are 22 percent more likely than PC people to be between 18 to 34 years old. Moreover, 36 percent of PC people are liberal whereas 58 percent of Mac people are liberal.

Other stats demonstrate that PC people are 18 percent more likely to live in the suburbs and 21 percent live in rural area which is contrasted with the 52 percent of Mac users that live in a city.

And are Mac people more “go-with-the-flow” and ready for a good time like the man presented in the commercials? It appears so, according to the study.

The survey found that PC people are 23 percent more likely to say they seldom throw parties while Mac people are more than 50 percent more likely than PC people to say they frequently throw parties. PC people are 26 percent more likely to prefer fitting in when they are in a crowd as opposed to Mac users who are 13 percent more likely than PC users to say they want to be perceived as “unique and different” and make their own mark.

The rest of the survey went on to dissect the users’ food and drinks preferences, fashion choices, media preferences and personality characteristics.

I myself am a PC user – both at work and at home – and I have to say that for me personally the survey results were pretty interesting and for the most part true (even if I guess in theory that means I identify more with the man in the commercial who is 30 years my senior).

After all, I do in fact enjoy Hollywood films over Indie films (and the survey says I am 74 percent more likely to than Mac people); I do prefer jeans and a sweatshirt as opposed to a cutting edge designer dress (as do my fellow PC users, according to this survey, since 71 percent of PC people identify their style as causal), and I certainly would opt for the New York Times over USA Today.

So are Mac and PC users really that different? Who really knows? Either way I would definitely suggest looking at these survey results and you may find that surprisingly you are more like the straight edge man in the commercial than you thought you were.
